GAL APPROVED! Mr. Malcolm’s List Is A Movie Must-See. Plus: Pics From the NY Screening & VIP Reception
By Delaina Dixon | July 1, 2022 | Entertainment, Gal ApprovedIf Pride and Prejudice and Bridgerton are your jam, you’re going to love Mr. Malcolm’s List. This Regency-era romance hits theaters today, and should be one of the top reasons you leave the house this weekend!
What’s It About?
Mr. Malcolm’s List tells the story of Mr. Malcolm, a distinguished honorable who is the hottest bachelor of 1818. While there are many young women ready to become his Mrs., Mr. Malcolm is searching for the one… that fits all the requirements on his wife list, and yes, he has it written out! When Mr. Malcolm ignores the affections of a high society gal (which becomes a bit of a public spectacle via social media, Regency-era style), she comes up with an ingenious plan for revenge. She invites her schoolmate Selina to feign being the woman of Malcolm’s dreams using information from said list. Selina isn’t part of high society, but she naturally has most of the characteristics on Mr. Malcolm’s list, which means this plan is about to go awry in many delicious ways.
Why You’ll Love It!
This is a charming tale inspired by famous writing of the era, where dashing gents meet headstrong women whose love they must earn. The scenes are wholesome, a refreshing change from all the sex-filled streaming we get nowadays.
And then there’s the cast. Director Emma Holly Jones has put together a gorgeously diverse group of actors, which includes British thespian Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù as Mr. Malcolm. Revel in his deep chocolate skin tone for as long as you like.
Then there’s the beautiful Freida Pinto, who plays Selina with sweetness and strength. Zawe Ashton stars as Julia and brings devious complexity to her role as a would-be bride spurned.
Ashley Park, who you’ll recognize from Emily In Paris, puts on an English accent with major hilarity. This is a cast where you can go with all your brown girlfriends, and everyone will see themselves represented.
Mr. Malcolm’s List: Screening & VIP Event
Our fearless EIC Delaina Dixon was invited to the NY Premiere screening of the movie at the DGA New York Theater, where the cast walked the carpet and made a special appearance on stage with their director.
After the screening, which received thunderous applause from the packed audience, the cast and special guests attended a VIP reception at Le Chalet at L’Avenue at Saks. The space was decadently themed to the year 1818, which an outdoor terrace where guests could play a game of croquet, and a peek inside the windows of Saks’ famous six-floor luxury shoe emporium, which has its own zip code. There was also a noble-themed photo display where guests could take their pictures, just like our EIC did.
