The Bacchae (starting Thursday, July 11) The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) opens its 20th anniversary programming season with the Greek tragedy The Bacchae inside Harlem’s Richard Rodgers Amphitheater at Marcus Garvey Park. Quick preview: Dionysus (God of wine and ecstasy) returns to his hometown in order to clear his mother’s name and punish the insolent city for not allowing its citizens to worship him. The work continues the company’s investigation of the current political and social climate via the Greek classics but with a contemporary, urban edge. The Bacchae‘s opening night is Thursday, July 11. Performances run Tuesday – Sunday at 8:30 p.m. through July 28. The best part? It’s free to the public!
Christmas In July (Thursday, July 11). The Catholic Charities Junior Board is hosting its annual “Christmas in July” event benefitting The St. Nicholas Project. Held at the Penn Club of NY, the night will feature an open bar, hor devours, a DJ and photo booth. Tickets are available at christmasinjuly.eventbrite.com.
