The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Dream Project Realized

Samuel L. Jackson executive produces and stars in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, a heartfelt series about an elderly man on the brink of losing everything due to his dementia. And the subject matter is one that is very personal.

“My grandfather, my uncle, my aunt, my mom, there are people on my father’s side who have Alzheimer’s… I watched them change, deteriorate, and become different people over the years.” It was important for Jackson to give them back that lost voice and, “being able to tell their story or listening to them and understanding that things in their past are more their present than what’s going on in their everyday life and understanding how to convey that to people.”

Ptolemy Grey undergoes a procedure to restore his memories and remembers things that change life as he knows it, along with the people around him. It’s based on the book by Walter Mosley, and it’s a story Jackson has wanted to bring to the screen for the past 12 years. He was “fighting to keep it from being an hour and a half movie or two hours; you can’t tell this story in that time,” he shared with Variety. “To get here is amazing.”

Upload returns to Amazon Prime

We can’t wait to see what happens next for our two favorite brown girls, Andy Allo and Zainab Johnson, who lead the cast! If you recall, Upload was an unexpected hit for the streamer and it had fans deliriously waiting to understand the fate of the multi-dimensional tale of love loss and megabytes. All seven episodes of Upload season two drops on Amazon Prime Video on March 11, 2022.

Amazon Studios’ Jennifer Salke said season two would also be a “smart, cinematic comedy crackling with intrigue.” Yes, it’s all about the plot and how that love triangle will play itself out, but we also love love love to see the fashion lewks Zainab is rocking. Expect her to be serving up a side order of style with those perfectly timed punch lines!
