Get Your Kicks With Sneakerella

A modern twist on a classic fairy tale, Sneakerella is the most inventive yet! Set in New York City, with a focus on Queens, El (Chosen Jacobs) is a talented designer working in the shoe shop left behind by his mom. All El wants to do is make dope sneakers and keep the legacy of his mom alive. Instead, he’s dealing with an unsupportive stepfather and two bullying stepbrothers who pile all the grunt work on El.

While waiting to get the latest kicks, El meets Kira (Lexi Underwood), and the two bond over their love of athletic footwear. Kira is the daughter of sneaker magnate Darius King which makes her — you got it — a princess! El also has a fairy godfather, who makes a night of dreams comes true.

Sneakerella has all the essential “Cinderella” elements: being home by midnight on the night of the ball, a lost sneaker and a blossoming romance, along with lots of fun music and dancing. And the DivaGals had a blast at the Sneakerella NY premiere party outdoors at Pier 17. We can’t stop gushing about the deep love shown to New York’s Queens community. Fun fact Queens boasts the most diverse county in the nation. What melted our hearts is seeing all that lovely diversity captured on screen. Thank you Disney for making us “seen.”

What really makes this film soar is its message. While the original Cinderella had to find a prince to have her happy ending, this film’s “true love” is about pursuing your passions and reaching for the stars. Believing in yourself is how you truly make your wishes come true.
