GAL APPROVED WKD Go Back In Time, Eat Globally & Dish Some Fish!By The DivaGals | August 8, 2014 | Gal Approved
WATCH. Oprah Winfrey is at it again, schooling us all on the culture of the world on the big screen. This time, it’s with the new film The Hundred-Foot Journey. A family-style Indian restaurant opens just a mere 100 feet away from a famous Michelin-starred French eatery, which causes its stern owner Madame Mallory (played by Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren) to go a little postal. That is until she realizes that the rival restaurant’s son Hassan (played by Manish Dayal), who is masterful at creating both cuisines, is a treasure that should not be ignored. Thanks, Oprah for another life lesson! The movie opens nationwide today. Our pal, Shaina411, was on the carpet at┬áThe Hundred-Foot Journey NY premiere ΓǪ check out her exclusive interviews with the cast and team below!
WATCH TOO. We’ve already warned you that there’s a lot of blood in Cinemax’s new series The Knick (it takes place in a hospital circa 1900, yo!), so be prepared for that. But stay tuned for Andre Holland‘s brilliant performance as highly trained African-American doctor Dr. Algernon Edwards, who is treated with disdain because of the color of his skin. He deals with the criticism and disgust with dignity, humor and a mean right hook when needed. Plus he does what many black people of that era did when they were denied ΓÇô he starts his own. The Knick airs its first episode on Friday, Aug. 8 at 10 p.m. on Cinemax.
WATCH 3. The safest way to travel back to 1743 is to watch Starz Network’s newest series Outlander, in which English nurse Claire Randall of the 20th century travels back in time and falls for a young Scottish soldier, even though she’s got a husband in her own era. We ain’t mad at Claire; we saw actor Sam Heughan (check him out on the far right above), who plays said solider, up close at the series premiere at the 92Y in New York City last week, and he’s definitely a hot white boy that all chicks can dig! We spoke with Diana Gabaldon, author of the international best selling books on which the series is based upon, who told us that even though the stories travel across the globe and time, it’s “the characters” that have drawn devotees in. “They like these people, and they want to know what happens next,” shared Diana, who is of Mexican-American heritage. We think it may be because of the bodice-ripping love scenes! Be forewarned, this series is sexy — you may want to have a bottle of wine and ice cubes at the ready! Outlander premieres Saturday, Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
EAT. After all that viewing, you’re gonna be hungry! Bonefish Grill has launched a new menu with more than 20 new items joining their tried and true favorites, all of which we got to try at a private tasting. This delicious new menu may make your carnivorous friends consider converting to Pescetarianism. Standouts for us were the Spicy Tuna Bowl served with premium sushi grade, sesame-seared tuna, avocado, sweet chili sauce, jasmine rice and passion fruit salsa. Then there’s the Crab Fried Rice and the Ravioli with Portobello Mushrooms … ridiculously delicious and something you must put on your Must-Eat bucket list! Wash it all down with a tasty Pineapple Martini. What we love is that Bonefish Grill is a casual dining franchise with artisanal touches. Depending on your region you will find very good local wines on the menu that compliment your meal. Available at all locations, the new additions also include low-cal and high-taste options that are under 550 calories. Check our more pics of our DivaGals FB page. Bon app├⌐tit & acch─ü kh─ün─ô!
