How To Find Love When You’re Social Distancing. Plus: One Site Is Giving Love Away For Free!By The DivaGals | March 19, 2020 | Relationships
Springtime is usually time to find your next great love. But it’s a different age than it was three weeks ago, and finding love nowadays seems virtually impossible. Bars, restaurants, coffee shops, movie theaters — all the places people would go on a date, have been shut down indefinitely due to COVID-19. According to a survey of over 2,200 users of dating app WooPlus, 30 percent are currently waiting out the virus before meeting matches in person for a first date. One user explained: “I’m not meeting anybody until they’ve given the all-clear. You’ve got to be really worth it for me to risk this virus for you.”
Singles aren’t ready to put themselves at unnecessary risk so they are trying to simply keep the conversation going online rather than meet in person. Neil Raman, founder and CEO of WooPlus, the dating app for curvy people, has come up with a few ways for singles to connect, even when you can’t meet in person.
Understanding that social distancing and self-quarantine can lead to isolation, Lisa50, a dating website and app for people over 50, has turned off all payments and is giving everyone over 50 free access. “We wanted to provide a platform where users can chat, make friends and boost their moral,” says David Minns, Lisa 50 founder.
Video Coffee Date
A first date often happens over a cup of coffee, so go ahead and have one. Brew up your favorite cup via your Kuerig, hop on Skype and go on a date! Being able to see the other person, hear their tonality and watch their facial expressions is hugely important when growing genuine connections. Changing up how you communicate can deepen the bond you form with a new partner.
Netflix and Virtual Chill
Why not find a great Netflix series to start together? This is a fantastic way to keep the conversation flowing. It allows you to have a narrative that’s moving forward, provides you both with something fresh to talk about and let’s you find out more about the type of person you are dating.
Take A Walk Together
If you can get outside safely (following the guidelines of social distancing of 6 feet from another person), why not go for a walk together separately. You can have a phone conversation and get to know one another while getting some much-needed fresh air.
Play Get-To-Know-You Games
Games are a great way to have some light-hearted fun, according to Raman. Try “Never Have I Ever” or “Two Truths, One Lie” Games can inject some much-needed humor while also letting you find out more about the person.
