‘How to Lose a Popularity Contest’ Pizza Parlor Premiere Takeover in NYC

Pizza wasn’t just on the menu — it was the moment—at the New York City premiere of How to Lose a Popularity Contest. Hosted by Tubi, the celebration unfolded at the always-iconic Scarr’s Pizza, proving that pizza parlors can absolutely outshine velvet ropes.
Our night started with a very New York moment: hopping out of an Uber to find a classic yellow school bus parked outside the venue—an instant photo-op and a cheeky nod to the film’s high school roots.
Inside, the room buzzed with energy—and the unmistakable smell of pizza. Before any mingling, priorities were set: slices. We dove into slices of original cheese, bright pesto, and the standout Hot Boy, loaded with meat and peppers and living fully up to its name. One specialty cocktail of the night, the “Max-rita” (watch the film and this will make sense) — a spicy guava margarita — hit just right, balancing sweet heat and refreshing vibes, and pairing surprisingly well with every slice in sight.
The true highlight, however, came when we spotted the film’s stars, Sara Waisglass and Chase Hudson, working the room. Hudson, dressed head-to-toe in sharp black, gave effortlessly cool energy all night—posing for photos, offering “what’s good” nods across the room, and clearly enjoying the moment. Waisglass was warm, polished, and radiated that charm that makes teen rom-coms work.
We closed the night with a photo that felt straight out of a yearbook—timeless, celebratory, and perfectly on theme. Because revisiting high school this way reminds us of the truth we didn’t know back then: popularity fades, but self-awareness sticks.
