NBC Press Tour Summer ’17! Steve Harvey Is Bringing Late Night Feel To His New Daytime Talk ShowBy Delaina Dixon | August 3, 2017 | Entertainment
If you’re wondering why Steve Harvey is moving his daytime show from Chicago to Los Angeles… well, he explained the move at his NBC press tour panel for his new talk show, Steve.
“People need to just laugh in the middle of the day,” Steve revealed, “for people to have a place to go instead of waiting until 11 p.m. to get a big laugh.” And that’s a “big spit on your computer laugh” Steve is hoping to get.
The series has some new email-free staff that has late night experience, which will help turn over this more topical version of the daily format within 24 hours, shared his executive producer Shane Farley. (Fun fact: he’s the former executive producer of our TV DivaGal’s last series The Gossip Table!)
Expect to see a monologue, a desk segment and fun games, but no house band, though there will be bands guesting, Farley shared.
Steve has two goals that have to happen in the new series. “When you tune in to see this show, this show will be funny – Ellen needs someone to go with her to have fun,” Steve declared (he’s leading into The Ellen Show.) Steve also promised that his show will continue to champion women “whether it’s dating, advice … I love how powerful and wonderful they are, I’m not going to stop doing that.”
We’ll also see more celebrities “since they can drive” to the set instead of flying in the dead of winter.
Steve is adamant that this series is definitively “Late Night in Daytime.” He stresses we don’t need to see more coupon queens or cooking segments in daytime. It’s all about the funny. So be ready to laugh.
Steve premieres Sept 5.
