OWN PRESS TOUR WINTER 2021! Delilah Challenges Two Besties (Who’ve Become Besties In Real Life!) Plus: Greenleaf Update!

What would happen if you had to professionally go up against your best friend? Would your friendship and careers last? That’s the question that Delilah, OWN Network’s new legal drama asks.
“They’ve known each other since high school. And Delilah came to Tamara’s rescue and they’ve been attached at the hip ever since,” said writer Devan Renea during the show’s panel. “These two have over two decades of friendship and find themselves in this space where that friendship is now challenged, but they love each other like sisters.”
Coming from Greenleaf creator Craig Wright, the series stars Maahra Hill as Delilah, an attorney working on an intense case in Charlotte, N.C. “She has a strong moral compass,” Maahra shared, adding that the female lawyers she studied to prep for the role are trying to balance their lives and fight for things that are important to them, and as black women, there’s that drive to push a little bit harder.
Jill Marie Jones of Girlfriends‘ fame plays that bestie, a, and made it clear that this character, like the roles she’s had in the past, is a dynamic female. “I like playing badasses,” she declared.
While the two may get into on screen, working on the show during the pandemic has brought them closer.
“From day one, Maahra and myself just hit it off,” Jill revealed to DivaGalsDaily. “I don’t anyone has ever said, thank god for the pandemic, that’s strange to say, but because we had the time, we had this time to cultivate a real friendship. So Maahra, I think we’ve been on the phone before for like six hours, and not just one time.”
“Marathon phone calls,” Maahra added.
Series creator Craig revealed that the actresses actually asked to have more fun together in their scenes. “And I would say, just wait, wait, we’ll get there,” he recounted. “Because of their [off-screen] friendship, you can really see on the screen these two characters wishing and wanting to connect, even though the situation is making it impossible.”
Delilah takes place in Charlotte, N.C., which is the new south, according to series producer Charles Randolph Wright. With the opportunity to showcase the new lifestyle you can experience in the city, from banking to restaurants, Charlotte was eager to work with the production. “They were so proud to be able for us to see this different city,” Charles shared. “It’s a different place with different energy in a new way.”
