WE WERE THERE! Self Help Africa’s 13th Annual Change-Maker’s Ball Honors Flaviana Matata

It’s gala season! We were excited to attend this season’s Self Help Africa’s Change-Maker’s Ball. The amazing Flaviana Matata is this year’s recipient.

The supermodel, businesswoman, and philanthropist has walked the runway for numerous renowned designers and been on the covers of numerous publications, such as Forbes, Marie Claire, Vogue, Essence and Glamour, and is the creator of The Flaviana Matata Foundation in Tanzania.

Flaviana’s personal care brand, LAVY Products, makes non-toxic, cruelty-free products available in more than 200 stores across six countries. Through LAVY Products, Flaviana has implemented a skills development program that empowers young women to grow as entrepreneurs and run their own businesses.

 A few celebrities spotted included Jaimie Alexander (Blindspot), Jay Manuel (TV Personality), Kelly AuCoin (Billions), Karen Pittman (And Just Like That), Xavier McKinney (NY Giants), Lovell Adams-Gray (Power Book II: Ghost), Kiana Madeira (Fear Street), Taylor Sele (Survival of the Thickest).

What we love about Self Help Africa is that it “works to alleviate hunger, poverty, gender inequality and the impact of climate change in 17 countries across Africa.” They accomplish this by providing “community-led, market-based, and enterprise-focused approaches so that people, particularly women, can access nutritious food, clean water, and income through small business development while sustaining natural resources.”
