Four Ways To Motivate Yourself To Work Out More in 2017 (#FitnessGoals)

Christmas is over and before you know it, the January blues will have set in. Motivation to stay fit will be hard to come by. You may start the year with a desire to get the best body ever in 2017, but how will you keep your motivation levels high when it’s dark and damp outside and the novelty value of rigorous workouts has worn off? If you’re eager to make 2017 the year you achieve those body goals, here are some of our top tips.

Write a list of why you want to hit your target.Writing things down is always a good way of clarifying your thoughts, and giving yourself a pep talk. Why do you want to hit your goal weight or smash your PB for a 10 km run? Are you keen to be healthier? Are you trying to improve your confidence? Are you desperate to look your best for a special event like a wedding or defy the aging process as a landmark birthday approaches? Whatever your motivation, write your list, and then read it if youΓÇÖre thinking of skipping that workout or missing a class. It will remind you of why youΓÇÖre putting in the hard work.

Invest in some new gym equipment. Very few things make you feel better about heading to the gym than a brand new outfit. If you look the part, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Make sure you choose something that’s comfortable and gives you freedom to move and stretch. Lycra is always a winner, and there are some really funky separates and two-pieces out there. Keep things fresh. It’s easy to get bored if you’re doing the same thing over and over again. There’s only so much fun you can have when you’re lifting weights and then climbing onto a treadmill every session. Vary your workouts, and think outside the box. You don’t have to go to the gym every time you want to get your body moving. Investigate dance, spin, or martial arts classes. Go for a swim or take your bike out. Jog in the park, take the dog for a walk or take tennis lessons. If you’re doing different types of exercise, there’s a lower risk of getting bored. You’ll also be working different muscle groups. Move in the right direction. It sounds obvious, but to reach your goals, you need to make sure that you’re heading in the right direction. This means increasing the intensity of your workouts as you get fitter and creating new goals every time you reach a milestone.

ItΓÇÖs understandable to find it hard to summon up the energy and motivation to work out sometimes. Some days, you may skip all the way to the gym or look forward to your boxing class all day. Other days, you may struggle to get off the sofa. Hopefully, these tips will boost your motivation levels, and help you smash those body goals.
