It’s the most exciting night on Broadway, so the TV Divagal where all the action happens, backstage at Radio City Music Hall for The Official Lipton Gift Lounge at the 63rd Annual Tony Awards. (These guys put out eight shows a week. They deserve a little swag!)
Lipton, the official sponsor of the event, kept things green at their Sustainabili-TEA bar and throughout the lounge. They also partnered with the Broadway Green Alliance to help the Great White Way take on a greener hue by printing the night’s Playbill on recycled paper.
Here’s your rundown of what went down backstage!
Wedded Bliss. Presenter Bebe Neuwirth attended the show with her husband of five weeks, wine connoisseur Chris Calkins. “A good friend of mine is a Buddhist priest, he handled part of the ceremony,” she told the TV Divagal of her intimate ceremony in New York City on May 7. The theater veteran plans to return to Broadway in a musical adaptation of The Addams Family. And she’s itching for a reunion with her former onscreen husband. “Put in a good word for me,” she told the TV Divagal about snagging a guest spot on Kelsey Grammer‘s new ABC series, Hank. Bebe, consider it done!
Hot Buzz! Lead actress nominee Jane Fonda‘s already got four Nespresso machines in her home, but that didn’t stop her from picking up her fifth, the new Nespresso CitiZ single serve machine. Someone likes her caffeine!
D.O.A.? Grey’s Anatomy star Chandra Wilson didn’t have “the slightest idea,” if Izzie and George are really dead on show. (Here’s a hint: check and see if their names are still on their dressing room doors!) But she did know she’s playing Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway from June 8 to July 5. Book me a ticket!
If The Shoe Fits… 9 to 5‘s Allison Janney is just about six-feet tall, but she didn’t think twice about cradling her feet in a four-inch red stiletto from Broadway shoe master Phil LaDuca‘s new fashion line. He then let me have my Cinderella moment and I slipped into a pair myself. Heavenly!
Role Reversal! Sure, Cult of Individuality and Anoname are jeans for men and women, respectively, but the boys from Poison can’t be caught up in gender labels. “Bret Michaels took the men’s, but Bobby Dall took some women’s for himself,” jeans designer Ron Poisson told the TV Divagal. Just which size of the ladies does a guy got to take to get the right fit? “They stretch and give, so they could probably get away with a 32, it’s just going to be tight.” As if a rocker would have it any other way!
How I Met Barney Stinson! Neil Patrick Harris strolled into the room with his boyfriend, David Burtka, hours before hosting the live performance to pick a few items, including a wallet from Passchal handcrafted handbags, made from discarded tires. Now that’s recycling!
Until next time,
TV Divagal
