Sitting next to Power 105.1 host Angie Martinez DivaGal Tsadiqwah sat front and center for a private viewing of the BET truth series. Directed by Emmy Award winner Lauren Grant, the film was greeted by soul-stirring silence and gasps.
While many stared in disbelief, I couldnΓÇÖt help but notice the mosaic role technology had played in the deaths of Eric Garner, Sandra Bland and many more. It was at that moment I was able to consume at every angle what it means to be black in todayΓÇÖs society. Black history had resurfaced in a whole new visual way and the eyes of the world were watching it unfold.
In the last 40 years since the Civil Rights Movement, #BlackLivesMatter has created an alert system that not even the blind and deaf can deny. Executive Producer, actor and real-life activist Jesse Williams, who is no guest to voicing unapologetic public views, gave a direct call to action, saying “Get it together!”
This enthralling documentary gives a closer look into the ideological split between young and old black America, systematic murdering and organized leadership. Those who think the days of worthwhile viewing is over and gone with, wake up! This is what you call reality TV, and yes, the revolution is being televised.
