Here’s an early Christmas gift for The Unit fans who mourned the end of its four season run this past May. Star Dennis Haysbert is working hard to bring it back, this time to the big screen!

“It may not be called a Unit movie, but I’ve partnered the author of Inside Delta Force and the series’ consultant, Command Sergeant Major retired Eric L. Haney. I just bought the rights to his books, and we’re going to make movies out of those,” Dennis reveals to the TV DivaGal exclusively.

Dennis has also partnered with Allstate Insurance for the companyΓÇÖs second Annual “Give Back Day,” which encourages people to volunteer on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, also known as Martin Luther King Day. A do-gooder himself, Dennis got his Unit costars involved in his last charitable act.

“Last year, as a gift to my crew at The Unit, I put ten rain catchers in ten villages in Kenya, Africa, which not only saves lives with clean water, but actually saves the lives of the young girls whose task it is to go down to these watering holes and rivers to collect it,” Dennis shares. “It’s a treacherous journey to these watering holes, both from human and animal predators alike.”

No doubt his crew will give back to Dennis, and join up when he gets his “Unit” themed movies underway!

Yes! These are the two best people to put together a movie based on the show that 10 million fans watched loyally!!! UNIT fans have been hoping for this kind of incredibly GOOD news since THE UNIT's network threw us to the proverbial TV curb.

Hopefully, they will reunite the original cast since we miss our Army family.

Thanks a bunch for making my new year the best year yet!

Great! The Unit was a favorite show of mine and I was really bummed when it was canceled. It'll be great if they pull this off!

Great news! This shows has to be one of the best on TV and to make a movie is even better. The cast and the players coming together will be great. To see it on the big screen will even be better. When CBS tossed it out it explians why corporate America can't produce with all the other junk on TV here is a show with back bone and guts. Go for it guys!

I believe the film Dennis and Haney are putting together is actually based on Haney's soon to be released "No Man's Land", and not a Unit movie. This news comes from Haney's Facebook page.

Nonetheless, when these 2 get together on a project, there is NO DOUBT it will be awesome!

I was all geared up for another year when the news came so I've been Netflixing the old shows. I was amazed to learn from some commentaries on the DVDs that the gear, tactics and quite possible some of the episodes were real stuff.

Please bring the movie out and I can even visualize a series of movies like Rambo.

    God Bless or troops

Great news BUT i also wish that it would come back to the TV screens, best show in years, it has alot of fans so i cant understand why it was axed, i also hope the movie version has the same set up as the TV series with the same characters, a film wouldnt be the same without mac, grey and bob!!

Folks, this has nothing to do with tv's The Unit, it is merely based on Haney's series of books, including his upcoming one, which Haysbert wants to adapt to the screen with the hopes of creating a new filmic franchise. And although it covers similar subject matter, it won't have any direct connection to the tv series The Unit, or to those particular characters whatsoever. Hell, I doubt any of the other cast members will even be involved.

I'd love this to be a Unit movie, and I'd love even more to see the show back on tv, perhaps on a basic cable station like FX, where I think it would thrive, but I hate to see my fellow fans get their hopes up reading more into something than is actually there. This is Haysbert trying to launch a Unit-like film franchise, and one that hasn't even been properly scripted yet, let alone funded or green lit. It's not even a go movie, let alone a Unit one.

This great news, Thanks Dennis for buying the rights to the books. I'm so glad that there will be movies made. Msybe there will be closure at least an ending, the 4th season left us all handing as to what really happen with Jonas and Molly. But I would really like to see the unit back on TV as a series, since CBS CANCELLED IT!!!!. They seem to always cancel the BEST SHOWS!!

I am just now hearing about the effort by Mr. Haysbert Gearing up for the Unit movie. I was so upset when The Unit went off the air. I look forward to seeing the Unit families back together again. I hope for lots of success for all and will definitely be there to watch.

Thanks to all those involved. I also read about Dennis Haysbert donating rain catchers to Africa. How could I get more information about these rain catchers?

They never should have taken this show off TV. The Unit was one of those shows that you looked forward to watching every week.Entertaining, real life issues, and personable characters. When they cancel a show like this and leave an overkill of ridiculous, monotonous reality shows makes me sick to my stomach. The Unit on the big screen? Where do I wait in line for tickets!!! Can't wait.

The crap that CBS is putting on now is so substandard compared to the Unit.
I bought all 4 seasons on DVD and wish they would at least do one more season, or a 2 hour movie to see what happens to Jonas and Molly.

The unit is the best show ever produced EVER..... I hope that the movie they make is inline with the show and not just a special opps movie... I would love to see after grey is married and jonas will prob take over for ryan... If they bring bak the whole cast having whiplash being a goodguy again... I would even take a Pre-qual showing the early days w ryan in the field w jonas and Ron cheals..... Anyway if they anounce that it is an actual Unit movie i will go camp out for weeks at the movies for a ticket..... Fired up Fired up here we go Fired up......

Oh, I can't wait to see the Unit again. TV networks take off all the good shows and leave the crap on. Reality shows are okay but they are running those into the ground and most of them do not have any SUBSTANCE. At least the Unit has substance. Can't wait for the movie or series, whichever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be awesome if Dennis' 5th season was released, or even a new season. It's understandable why the show was canceled, CBS is looking for the multiple-million viewers not the few-million. I believe the decline in viewers is accounted on the wives skits, as a Marine, when I turn on the Unit it's for the Army skits. For a spec-ops show, the majority allotment should be action, am I right, oo-rah?

Cbs is the reason show was cancelled they moved it to sundays at 10:00pm. But it hardly ever aired at 10 due to football games running over. So it was on later then 10pm or they skip it for that night. So of course it lost viewers. Bring back the unit. Best show ever!!!!

As a former Marine, the actors in the Unit display all of the correct tactics and weapon handling. Kudos to the technical advisor. They are the best I have seen on all T.V. shows reflecting military actions.

    Keep the faith.

I can't believe another network didn't pick this show up. It was my favorite show and really felt like it could keep going. I don't know any men that weren't addicted to this show. I'm hoping the movie is going to happen still. Also hope the original actors are hired. Who knows, maybe after the movie the demand for the tv show will come back. Dennis, good luck on making this happen. No one cares if the name changes, it's the content of the show that keeps us coming back for more.

Ps. When I was young, I wanted to either be a top gun pilot or special forces like most boys, I think this show helps civilians see into that lifestyle.

My son & I both Army loved this show. Had it not been for reruns and a DVR to record every episode on we would have gone through withdrawals for sure. We look forward to the movie by any name. Dennis you are the best and the original cast perfect this show(Unit) and we're sure the movie will be just as outstanding. Maybe the movie will evolve into a series. Good luck Dennis, can't wait for the movie.

It'll be great to bring THE UNIT back to television..I hope you succeed. It is a beautiful series...and the character "Jonas Blane" is an excellent example of a STRONG African American and black leader...sometimes "extra-human" but I learnt a lot from that character as a middle aged man.On leadership, decision making in crisis situations, etc,,,.
