FITNESS DIVAS: Get Back On Track with Cara Castronuova
By Cara Castronuova | May 28, 2013 | Entertainment, Fitness
Feeling a little sluggish after too much of everything this past Memorial Day? The DivaGals reached out to The Biggest Loser alum Cara Castronuova for some tips on how to get back on your fitness plan, including her upcoming fundraiser, Dance-a-ThinΓäó on June 1 in New York.
Kick off with a “cleanse” to symbolize your new commitment to get back on track. There are some really good ones out there, but just make sure it is not too extreme and unhealthy, which means no extreme starvation (if you feel like you are going to kill somebody or are snappy towards everyone during your cleanse, that is not a good sign!) Try a good cranberry juice (unsweetened) cleanse. I just did one and I feel super rejuvenated. Do some research online, or try this one at www.livestrong.com. Just be sure to check with your doctor first to make sure it’s ok for you to do.
Write out a menu for the upcoming week complete with calorie counts and go shopping for the week’s food in advance. When you have a “plan” you are ten steps ahead! When you don’t have a plan and you’re hungry, you will just eat anything in the moment, it’s human nature! Start tracking calories ASAP until you “get it.” Most people don’t realize how many extra calories they are eating until they start writing it down. Use www.myfitnesspal.com, a wonderful free app for smartphones or online that keeps you accountable and your calorie count in check.
Buy new sneakers made for running and working out. Your feet are the foundation to your “house,” and when it comes to working out, a good pair of sneakers can make a huge difference. Plus you will want to get good use out of them if you invest in a quality pair. Put them near your front door and post an inspirational quote, poster or picture over them to remind you at all times to just put them on and go for your workout!
Dance yourself thin! On June 1, Cara will host the first annual Dance-a-ThinΓäó, a fitness fundraising festivity, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. from 7 to 11 p.m.┬á All proceeds will benefit KnockOut Obesity, Inc., Cara’s new nonprofit, to help send local NY children to fitness camp this summer. The fundraiser is also an effort to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices and combat obesity. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.┬á For tickets and event information, please visit www.knockoutobesityfoundation.com and www.caracastronuova.com.
