GAL APPROVED Weekend: Watch Steel Magnolias & Glam Fairy; Super Sweet Cars & A Glossy PoutBy DIVAGALS | October 5, 2012 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
WATCH. Break out your tissues for Lifetime’s adaptation of Steel Magnolias. The new version features an African-American cast helmed by Queen Latifah, who also executive produced the film. We caught a preview at Lifetime’s private screening of the tearjerker on Wednesday night. Centered around Truvy’s beauty shop, itΓÇÖs the story of six women in different stages of their lives as they deal with love and losses. Queen Latifah plays M’Lynn, the proud mama who would do anything for her daughter Shelby (played by Condola Rashad). Of course, the one thing Shelby wants ΓÇô to give birth to a child ΓÇô puts her life in jeopardy, and that’s one issue mama can’t solve, though she sure does try. Adepero Oduye stars as Annelle (Daryl Hannah‘s quirky role); we loved how she rocks her natural hair throughout the film (visit our site next week for her haircare secrets!). Grammy Award winner Jill Scott and Tony┬« Award winner Phylicia Rashad star in the film, along with Oscar nominee┬á Alfre Woodard, who gives a laugh-out-loud performance as Ouiser. We only have one question for this incredible ensemble: which company supplied their undergarments? Everyone looks so perky! Catch Lifetime’s television event, Steel Magnolias, Sunday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime. Check out our pictures from the premiere screening party inside the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Warm up your tear ducts the night before with ABDUCTED: The Carlina White Story, the true tale of a child who was kidnapped at birth and solved her own crime in her teen years. Starring Keke Palmer, Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m., only on Lifetime.
WATCH 2. Glam Fairy is back to kick off its second season Sunday night, and star Alexa Prisco promises it will be a “very new, real version” of the reality series. “It’s going to quench that thirst that people have to take down the process element of the show as in ‘this is what’s happening and this is the makeover,’ and really show my life as a makeup artist and what it is to be a makeup artist,” she explained to TV DivaGal at a autograph signing inside the NBC Experience Store in New York City. Plus, we’ll get to see Alexa running her business, planning her wedding to Danny Ziegler and of course, dealing with her pregnancy ΓÇô her first child, Michaela, is due net month. “For the last six episodes, you’ll see me pregnant, facing real issues and not wanting to give it all up just because I’m pregnant. I think that’s real issues other pregnant women will relate to,” she shared. We’re pretty sure with Alexa it will go glamorously! Catch Glam Fairy on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. on Style Network.
DRIVE. The DivaGals may not need a car in the Big Apple, but that certainly didn’t stop us from drooling over three new three Hyundai cars showcased at the Re:Mix Lab, which launched right here in New York City. Showcasing the cars’ newest features and top-of-the-line modifications, we got to check out the cool interior lighting and a car decked out with more speakers than a political forum. At the lab we enjoyed┬á interactive activities, rocking music, cocktails and the chance to win one of those sweet rides. Curious? Check out the Re:Mix Lab on its four-month tour that will hit cities Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, Austin and Miami for Art Basel (you can also register to win a car!).
