GAL APPROVED Weekend Edition: Chip-Free Polish, Inspire… A Cause and L’Oreal Products for Natural Hair!
By The DivaGals | October 14, 2011 | Beauty, Entertainment, Food Fashion Style, Gal Approved, Gals On The Town, RelationshipsCLEANSE. At The HBO Luxury Lounge during Primetime Emmy weekend, LΓÇÖOreal gifted me with several products that I have been using for the last month.┬á Now IΓÇÖm not normally a ΓÇ£regular brand” kind of girl; I live at Sephora!┬á But I have to say that L’Oreal has made a believer out of me. I have been on a natural growth hair journey since last November.┬á Part of that journey is figuring which hair care brands and products work best for me. As a naturally curly girl, itΓÇÖs best that I use sulfate-free products (and to be honest, they are best for everyone). LΓÇÖOreal’s shampoo and conditioner from the EverSleek line, the Intense Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner, have worked pretty well for me.┬áThe shampoo lathers up very nicely and doesnΓÇÖt leave my hair dry and frizzy.┬áThe conditioner gives my hair a nice soft feeling after I wash it out.┬áI end up with a controlled mass of knot-free curls, two thumbs up! SHINE. At The Daily Beauty Bar inside of New York City’s Townhouse Spa I tried shellac nail polish by CND, the perfect choice for the girl who isn’t one to go once a week to get a manicure. Who’s got that kind of money anyway these days? So a shellac manicure in your favorite color is just the perfect way to go. While it may be a bit more expensive than a regular manicure, it saves money in the end since this shellec stays on for 14-plus days, sans chipping and fading. Make sure you pick the right color; I picked Fedora, a deep chocolate brown. If you get tired of it, you can’t just grab a cotton ball and some remover, nope. You’ve got to head to the salon for a special procedure to get it off. While that may be a drawback for some, for the girl who doesn’t mind the investment, it just “comes with the territory.” I do not advise you peel it off once it starts to chip. Your nails will need a serious filing and buffing afterward, so it’s best left to the professionals, and yes, Townhouse offers the procedure! (Style Gal)
INSPIRE. Over 300 guests attended the National Urban Technology Center’s Urban Tech Annual Benefit at Capitale in New York City, and the DivaGals wouldn’t miss an opportunity to give props to those who educate and inspire our youth. Chancellor Dennis Walcott presented Principal Ramon Gonzalez with the Education Leadership Award, and NBA star John Starks received the Humanitarian Award, in absentia, from Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, president of the New York Board of Rabbis. Jessica Isaacs of Marsh Inc. received the Corporate Leadership Award from Christopher Williams, chairman, CEO and founder of the Williams Capital Group and Carla Harris of Morgan Stanley. The evening was chaired by Mrs. Michelle Paige Paterson. Who was our table mate? Food Network Star contestant and executive chef of Caf├⌐ Napoli Chris Nirschel. Ladies, this single hot chef is a charming dinner companion. We also saw one of our favorite news anchors CBS 2 News anchor Maurice DuBois, who played emcee for the evening. HBO’s Nurse Jackie star and stage veteran Dominic Fumusa, his wife, actress Ilana Levine, and character actor Richard Kind were also in attendance, along with actresses Nadia Dajani and Necessary Rounghness star Callie Thorne and Broadway producers Steven Byrd and Alia M. Jones. The highlight of the evening included Urban Tech’s formal announcement/launch of the Adopt-a-School Support Network (ASN). The evening celebrated Urban Tech’s success in transforming 460,000 young lives through the implementation of 750 computer training centers and the creation or foundation of 200 youth development programs through technology and training. If all goes according to plan, the next Steve Jobs may very well be an Urban Tech graduate! (Luxe Gal)
