Hanging With the Houghs At Mohegan Sun!

TV DivaGal is a fan of TV dancing shows like So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars, and I learned the Move Live On Tour show was coming to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Starring brother and sister phenom Julianne and Derek Hough, the latter who has danced with many sisters of a chocolate hue on DWTS (new mom ‘Lil Kim and Mirror Ball trophy winner Amber Riley), plus yours truly at ABC’s Summer Press Tour, the show is choreographed by SYTYCD‘s NappyTabs ΓÇô a double-billing not to be missed.

Obviously I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. The show was sold out inside Mohegan Sun’s Arena on Sunday evening, and rightfully so. The 90-minute showcase is a dazzling combination of dance in practically every genre: Ballroom (of course!), Hip-Hop, Contemporary ΓÇô even Tap!

Backed by 10 other dancers, Derek and Julianne glide, leap, and Paso Doble all over the stage, pairing with each other and their backup dancers in numerous numbers. They also take to the mic to sing and interact with the audience. The show ends on a high, encouraging us all to follow our passions as oversized beach balls are tossed into the audience to get us all moving for the finale. Move Live will be in Baltimore on June 27, and the show continues throughout the country through July.

The show left us with a ravenous appetite (must have been the ball toss!), so we headed to Bobby Flay‘s Bar Americain for a delectable dinner.

We dined on deviled eggs, rich seafood stew and lamb tenderloins that were cooked to perfection. Of course, we saved room for German chocolate cake at the end. We couldn’t get enough of our server Shannon, who anticipated what we needed next about 5 seconds before we did.

A quick tour of the facilities on Monday morning revealed to us that there is plenty of shopping with 39 stores to chose from; dining (40 options available!); and gambling activities to be had inside Mohegan. Mohegan also has Elemis Spa, which indulges you in its own and Bliss products; an encased pool with bar on premises and outdoor cabanas; and a fully stocked fitness center. While we had chosen to retire early, we made note of Avalon, Mohegan’s on-premise nightclub. Offering state of the art sound and lighting, renown DJs and free entrance for ladies (check times for entry), we made a mental note to definitely be back.

Mohegan Sun is the ideal spot for a girls’ summer getaway ΓÇô and you may come home with thousands in your pocket! Who can beat those odds?
