How I Met Your Mother: The Series Finale Airs Tonight!By Delaina Dixon | March 31, 2014 | Entertainment
Tonight, I say goodbye to five friends I’ve gotten to know over the last nine seasons.
When I first started watching How I Met Your Mother, I wasn’t sure where the story would go, or if creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas even had an idea on how we would meet the mother. But I was intrigued enough to stay along for the ride. While the cast lacked diversity, their stories transcended color as they dealt with love, heartbreak and the resilience of friendship.
Marshall and Lily became one of my favorite couples on television. I watched as they shared their love story which started that first week in college; cried when Lily almost left Marshall behind; smiled when they married and had their first child and smiled again when Lily discovered that she was pregnant with her second.
I always rooted for the Barney/Robin connection. His machismo ways were mellowed out by her bravado. My only regret is that we haven’t seen their kidsΓǪ of course, there’s always tonight.
As for Ted, there was something endearing about his pure devotion to true romance, that you couldn’t help but root for him. I could relate to his struggle to find “the one.” If we only all knew we would walk out of our house and find that yellow umbrella that would someday lead us to the oneΓǪ it would make the waiting so much easier. But I didn’t mind waiting as Ted lead us along in his search to find her, through his Veronica, Stella, Zoey and even Robin.
While it would have been fun to have the mother be someone we had already met (remember his date with brainic Janet McIntyre?), I am glad that he found someone he can give his heart to, and she truly appreciates it.
How I Met Your Mother, series finale, airs Monday, March 31 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
