Finding love is never easy, especially in a big city. Here in New York, parties pop up all the time to introduce the singles in the city to one another.

And so it was at the MeetMoi Nuit Blanche event at Hotel Chantelle last month. Hosted by Sally Golan and NY Arts Magazine, guests were encouraged to wear white (for purity’s sake?) and engage in interactive dating matches live throughout the night. That’s not scary at all.

Here are some quick dating tips to survive such an interaction.

1. Expect him to behave like a gentleman. Just because you’re only talking for a few minutes doesn’t mean that there’s no time for chivalry, like standing up to greet you when he meets you. If he doesn’t treat you with respect in that short of time, he won’t, ever.

2. Be a lady. Just as he’s a gentleman, show him that you know how to be just as proper. Even if you’re not interested, be kind and polite. You can tell him honestly that you’re not feeling that click, and if he’s a true gentleman, he’ll understand.

3. Don’t make the first meeting an inquisition. After all, you’ve only got a few minutes. Find out if you have anything in common, and work from there. On the second date, you can ask if he has mommy issues or wants to have 2.5 kids.

A bonus tip: Don’t forget the breath mints. Always be safe; never sorry!
