LUXE GAL: FIT’S “Judging Day” Favorite Looks!
By Maureen Martin | April 24, 2013 | Entertainment, Food Fashion StyleEvery spring, the Fashion Design students at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) toil away in their last semester, creating two garments with the hope that their creations will be selected for FIT’s annual “The Future of Fashion” runway show, which happens annually at the university’s New York City campus.
We received a very special invitation to witness “Judging Day,” where industry experts select the outfits that will make that potentially life-changing runway show.
While we weren’t there to judge ΓÇô that daunting tasks went to the likes of Elle creative director and All On the Line star Joe Zee, fashion blogger/America’s Next Top Model alum Bryanboy and four other judges — we did select our top looks.
We liked the Mad Max-ish leather coat, pictured above, with what appeared to be a reworked vintage fur and combination of woven leather.
This Film noir-ready gown with cutout side paneling was incredible in vivid yellow technicolor.
It may be getting a run for its money from this ’40s-influenced black evening dress with a mesh overlay bodice, pleated train and beaded trim.
We wouldn’t snuggle up in this sweater. We’d throw on our sharp leather black booties and happily skip the jewelry, thanks to its studded collar plate.
Only 90 of the 250 looks we got to witness during “Judging Day” will make the runway, in the categories of knitwear, special occasion, intimate apparel, sportswear and children’s wear.
Don’t have an invitation? Not a problem. “The Future of Fashion” will be streamed live online on May 1at 6:30 p.m. EST at www.fitnyc.edu/futureoffashion.
We can’t wait to see if our faves make their runway debut!
