Book contributor Terri Harmon takes to the Internet to tune in for the new digital series Checked Out.

For those who work or have worked for a grocery store emporium, this is your break room. From this very room, we learn about other occurrences inside the the fictional store in which Checked Out employees live lives on their “15-minute” breaks.

Here’s a recap of the pilot episode: Marissa (Zelda Williams, Robin Williams‘ daughter) is talking in the break room with Jameson, played by David Greenman. Jameson is about to leave when Lisa (Vicki Lewis) comes in and starts to talk about a doctor she’s just met. While Jameson and Marissa make fun of her, they also try and help her see that her new suitor might not be who she thinks he is. Yes, it’s typical behavior in a break room among co-workers, delivered through subtle humor, which reminded me of the deadpan tone of MTV’s Daria.

This web series is funny and relatable. The funniest part to me is when Lisa sits on Jameson’s lap to explain how she met the “doctor” inside the store. Hmmm, maybe the doctor’s not because Jameson believes he is the right man for Lisa? We’ll have to watch and see.
