With broken hearts we report that the artist we love and know as Prince has passed away.

Celebrities have been pouring out tributes for the iconic artist who revolutionalized his own class of music – a combination of funk, pop, R&B and soul. Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Whoopi Goldberg have spoken on Prince’s death, with Whoopi stating “This is what it sounds like when doves cry.. Prince R.I.P. … Condolences to his family and to us all.”

Here in New York City, where most of the DivaGals reside, crowds are gathering at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem to show their love and respect for Prince. And in his hometown of Paisley Park, Minn., they have gathered and turned the local bridge purple.

From the Prince songs he sang — “When Doves Cry,” “Purple Reign” and “Kiss,” to the ones that he wrote for others (“Maniac Monday,” “When Doves Cry,” “Feel For You” … and the list goes on), his music has sound tracked our lives with shades of gold, silver and yes, purple.

Rest In Peace, Purple One.
