Russell Simmons Awarded At National Urban Tech GalaBy Chanel Omari | July 13, 2015 | Gals On The Town
Hello my Divalicious readers! This #MainEventMonday we give back by supporting a good cause in Diva style!
The Urban Tech Center recently hosted their infamous Urban Tech Gala for 2015, celebrating 20 years of service by connecting students and families to digital literacy, and offering comprehensive health education and life skills that are critical to academic success for the multicultural individual.
This yearΓÇÖs gala was the “it” event of the season, held at Gotham Hall, an exquisite venue in the heart of New York City known for its style and sophistication. Proceeds from the event benefited the National Urban Technology Center and supported youth by giving them a platform to have a voice and encouraging students to lead a more successful academic life.
The evening began with a VIP cocktail party followed by an incredible dinner. There was dancing to all the classics and an awards ceremony, plus a live auction and exciting fashion show featured by “Text to Pledge.”
E! Network correspondent Alicia Quarles, a dear friend and one of my personal favorites (featured above with me, Kelly Brady and media personalities Tom Murro and Shelley Rome, l. to r.) and CBS This Morning‘s Maurice DuBois served as Urban TechΓÇÖs Master of Ceremonies for the evening, delivering one of the most heartfelt and touching speeches that made me cry, laugh and inspired me to be a better person — in style of course!
ThatΓÇÖs not all my fabulous Divas! This year, the Urban Tech Gala assembled a distinguished group of honorees, including four-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe award winner Annette Bening, who accepted the Humanitarian Award; Russell Simmons, business mogul and co-founder of the music label Def Jam, who accepted the Visionary Award for his philanthropy and activism; and a true Diva, founder and president of Urban Tech Pat Bransford, was honored with an award of commendation for inspiring us all to come together that night to give back and embrace one another to lead better lives.
During dinner, I was mesmerized by the Keith Lloyd Couture collection, which brought its Lincoln Center Fashion Week show to Gotham Hall. Models walked down the center of the hall in his stunning pieces, while we Divas were able to shop the runway. Can it get any better than that? One hundred percent of the proceeds from the live fashion show went directly to Urban Tech, which is what a true Diva is all about, giving back in style.
What would a remarkable event like this be without other notable celebrity friends who graced the red carpet with elegance and helped me support this amazing cause like The Real Housewives of New York‘s Countess Luann de Lesseps, actress Leslie Lopez and more.
