sachadhawannbcoutsourcedYes, we all know we’re totally going to watch Matt Damon return to 30 Rock for the series fifth season premiere tonight.

But you should stick around for NBC’s new comedy, Outsourced, about an American who’s sent to India to run a novelty gift company’s call center.

That sounds like it could add up to a series of very bad jokes at the expense of one’s culture, but star Sacha Dhawan actually thinks the show does the opposite.

“I really like that it’s representing our culture,” says the Indian actor who was raised in England. “There’s lots of things that talk about home and tradition. It’s nice to see that reflected on TV and having it be accurate.”

He’s also enjoying his part. “In this political climate, I sometimes found myself wishing I could just play a character, and not have to go after just the terrorist or Muslim,” Sacha declares. Playing young call center employee Manmeet who’s fascinated with Americana, Sacha says, “It’ s good to break away from that. Manmeet’s upbeat and fun. And it’s nice when you come to work, you’re not the only brown face.”

Outsourced premieres Thursday, Sept 23 at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.
