Our new Single Gal contributor, Nicole Ferrell, spins a single gal’s Valentine’s Day with a night of sexy soulful music!
On Valentine’s Day, while most woman were getting wooed by their men, I was with my friends trying to figure out what we were going to do for the night of love. I went to Brooklyn to stay at Aloft New York Brooklyn hotel, where the bartender informed me that the Barclays Center was having a Ladies Night Tour with ’90/2000s R&B singers, including Keith Sweat, K-Ci & JoJo, Carl Thomas, Al B. Sure, El DeBarge and more, hosted by the legend Doug E Fresh. I was ready for an amazing night because I love 90/2000s R&B music. We scored floor seats for the sold-out concert. The performers didn’t miss a beat and had the crowd full of women and couples on their feet singing every song.
K-Ci & JoJo, my favorite performers, tossed in some throwbacks from Jodeci. At the end of their performance they brought all their kids on stage while they sung their 1997 hit “All My Life.” Keith Sweat brought girls on the stage to sing to them and it felt like we were back in the ’90s. The best part about the entire show was the host Doug E Fresh he rocked the mic, “when he rock upon the mic he rock the mic right!” He is truly THE human beat box.
Back at the hotel, I found out that Keith Sweat, Carl Thomas and K-Ci & JoJo was staying at my hotel, and I was able to hang out with them at the bar. JoJo and I played pool (he won). It was the best Valentine’s Day I have ever had!
So women, don’t get discouraged if you don’t have a Valentine because you never know what can happen: keep your eyes, ears and heart open!
