The Bachelor Shawntel’s Big Dating Mistake! Plus: Which Bachelor Would Brittney Chose?By Delaina Dixon | January 23, 2012 | Entertainment
The Bachelor fans were in for a shock last week when Shawntel Newton, who first appeared during Brad Womack‘s second Bachelor run, made a second appearance on The Bachelor franchise, this time to try to winner current bachelor Ben Flajnik‘s heart. And of course, it failed miserably as Ben sent her packing the same night she arrived.
Shawntel must have just skimmed the Bachelor/Bachelorette handbook for finding true lasting love within the realm: date a former contestant/star offline to make it to the altar. Though she admits she did try to connect with Ben once he finished his run on The Bachelorette.
“When he was on Ashley [Herbert]ΓÇÖs season, I made it really clear and apparent that I had a crush on him on Twitter,” Shanwtel tells TV DivaGal. “And he sent me a message on Twitter and so we both were kind of private messaging each other back and forth.”
Sounds good … but here’s when it got tricky. “Once it kind of got towards the end I didn’t hear from him as much, and I learned that he was becoming the next Bachelor, which made as to why we weren’t talking as much.”
Shanwtel should have told him to go have fun on the show, and for him to feel free to reach out once his season was over and his chosen relationship ultimately fizzled off-screen (as most have) … not return to the show as a common contestant!
Maybe Shanwtel’s strategy is to garner enough sympathy tweets to get offered a Bachelorette role herself?
“I haven’t even really thought about The Bachelorette,” she declares. “I wanted to meet Ben and it was kind of like, well, this is the only chance I have.”
Until his relationship from this season flops, and you catch him single at The Bachelor reunion party. Then you pounce, girl!
FYI for Brad Womack: You may find a Bachelor wife yet! Brittney Schreiner, who quit this season’s show before Ben could take her on a single date, has said you’re the bachelor she wants to hook up with. Looks like you better hit those reunion parties too!
The Bachelor airs Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
