Tribeca Film Festival ‘26: Diversity Behind and In Front of the Lens

The 25th annual Tribeca Film Festival officially kicked off June 3, and it’s already showing off its roster of films that promise to bring diverse artists and audiences together.
Opening night left a powerful impression. The premiere night of Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial VS That’s the Weight of the World) at the Beacon Theatre made Black culture and music the opening act to the festival. It was a fitting introduction to an equally energetic film. But what else would you expect from the doc’s producer, Questlove?
The lineup for the premiere was crowded with Black history-makers in the music industry. Musicians were on hand to shower the documentary with the love it deserves. Members of Earth, Wind & Fire themselves posed for photos (and performed to close out the night), as well as other famous figures like Flavor Flav and H.E.R.
It set the standard for this year’s festival lineup. Some of our most anticipated films this year tell stories that are as inclusive and diverse as New York City itself: Sad Girlz by Fernanda Tovar, MATININÓ by Gabriela Díaz Arp, Kingston by Carlos Key and Kalijah Rowe, and others.
