Our Pittsburgh correspondent, Lisa Bricker, weighs in on Hines Ward’s Dancing With the Stars win!
STEELER NATION HAS GONE WILD! (The DTWS VIEW from the ΓÇÿBURGHΓÇÖ)
Better than the SUPER BOWL, you bet! Here in the Burgh, everyone is HINES happy!
Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward proves once again he is a champion. It may not be the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but ask anybody in the STEELER NATION and the MIRROR BALL TROPHY is just as good, if not better.
Nearly four months after a brutal loss in Super Bowl XLV, Hines brings a win back to the ΓÇÿBurgh crowning it the CITY OF CHAMPIONS once again! With the terrible towel by his side, the Steelers wide receiver and dancing partner Kym Johnson danced their way to victory, beating out Chelsea Kane and Kirstie Alley to win DWTS’ Season 12.
Hour before Hines held the terrible trophy, over 500 fans gathered at a local viewing party held at Stage AE, a club across from Heinz Field home to the Pittsburgh Steelers. From Steeler jerseys to Fab Fashion, everyone cheered Hines and Kym on with signs and of course, the what, oh yeah, the magicle terrible towel.
Unfortunately, thousands of viewers didnΓÇÖt get a chance to see the win they’ve been waiting for due to a massive power outage in the northern suburbs of Pittsburgh. Two transmission lines that lead to a substation were to blame. Despite that, all is well.
So whatΓÇÖs next for number 86? Well, before he can put the Mirror Ball next to his MVP trophy, heΓÇÖll likely be holding it high to screaming fans in Downtown Pittsburgh. ThatΓÇÖs right, just minutes after winning Season 12 of Dancing with the Stars, thereΓÇÖs talk of a parade here in the Burgh. No formal announcement has been made, but being a ΓÇÿBurghΓÇ¥ gal, IΓÇÖm betting on it!
Now Hines isnΓÇÖt the first football player to win DWTS, Emmitt Smith took home the title in season three.
And speaking of football, if and when the season begins, letΓÇÖs hope that ΓÇÿTwinkle ToesΓÇÖ can dance his way into the End Zone.
