TV contributor Angela Yvonnen recaps The Voice premiere.
The Voice premiered Monday, Sept. 22 and Tues. 23 with a bang!
First, let me say that the addition of the two powerhouse superstars, Pharrell Willams and Gwen Stefani, we are definitely going to add a new dynamic, being that they have collectively 10 Grammys and have sold millions of records in groups and as solo artists.
The opening of the show they formed the ultimate supergroup perforamce with Gwen fronting her and PharellΓÇÖs hit “Hella Good” with Adam Levine and Pharrell and Blake Shelton singing harmonious in the background prepping us for the best season yet!
Here are the four chairs turns of the first week:
Luke Wade: “ThatΓÇÖs How Strong My Love Is” (Team Pharrell)
Damien: “ItΓÇÖs So Hard to Say Goodbye” (Team Adam)
Joe Kirk: “Lego House” (Team Adam)
Taylor Phelan: “Sweater Weather” (Team Pharrell)
Maya Sykes: “Stay with Me” (Team Pharell)
Top Ten Material. In this group, a few deserved the four turn salute from the judges, but I worry about Damien and Maya with their true powerful voices being able to be crossover artists and to keep the audience interested enough to take them to the top 5 or to win the show.
Joe KirkΓÇÖs four-chair turn was an “are you serious moment?” Although his performance was good, I donΓÇÖt think he will make it through battle rounds.
Three chairs turned for these five:
Clara Hong: “ChuckieΓÇÖs In Love” (Team Adam)
Briana Salaz: “Problem” (Team Gwen)
Allison Bray: “Merry Go Round” (Team Blake)
Danica Shirey: “Big White Room” (Team Pharrell)
Taylor Brashers: “You AinΓÇÖt Woman Enough to Take My Man” (Team Blake)
Top Ten Material. Out of the three chair turns, I honestly thought Danica should have gotten a four-chair turn. Her voice was reminiscence of the late Teena Marie. I was not a fan of Briana because it was too popcorn, I thought the judges were too quick to turn and I donΓÇÖt think she is strong enough for battle rounds. Allison is the comeback kid of the season because last she didnΓÇÖt place last season.
Two chairs turned:
Elijah Rene: “XoXo” (Team Pharrell)
Taylor John Williams: “Heartless” ( Team Gwen)
Menlik Zergabachew.: “Santeria” (Team Gwen)
Regan James: “Give Me Love” (Team Blake)
Sugar Joans: Chain of Fools (Team Gwen)
Top Ten Material. I think that when only two chairs turn they see potential, but I feel they are just possible pawns. I think that Regan has a possibly to show potential; she may surprise me, but for the others I was not impressed. I was surprised that Sugar Joans did not have at least a three chair-turn because she has power and I think with a better song choice she is a potential top ten.
I am really excited to see how this season unfolds and I hope the judges really pay attention when building their teams for battle and not be too antsy to jump on the button.
We have the more weeks to go, and I canΓÇÖt wait to see who maybe the new Voice! Let me know what your thoughts, Tweet Me @AngelaYvonne using the #AngelaYvonne or #DivaGalsDaily and let me know what you think!
