WATCH THIS THIS WEEKEND! Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le on Lifetime!By Delaina Dixon | October 14, 2016 | Entertainment
This weekend Lifetime will air Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge &┬áMichel’le, and unveil┬áthe untold story of one of the pioneering women in hip hop, who was Dr. Dre‘s protege and lover. The songtress, best known for┬áher Billboard Top 10 hit “No More Lies” and R&B chart topper “Something In My Heart,” takes us inside her rise to fame… and the alleged domestic abuse that came with her┬ásuccess.
DivaGalsDaily talked with Michel’le this week to find out why she decided to make her story known now, and she revealed to us that the universe found her. “When Dr. Dre did his movie [Straight Outta Compton] a lot of people asked ‘well wait a minute, what happened to Michel’le?’ It was obvious after that point,” she shared.
Finding the right actress to play Surviving Compton’s leading role┬áwas no easy feat, but Michel’le says actress Rhyon Nicole Brown (pictured up top)┬á”was a phenomenon … When I got to set and heard her talk I thought, ‘she really gets me.’ I’m excited and elated (for her performance ) and I give my gratitude for everything she took under her wing.”
The movie doesn’t shy away from┬áthe abuse Michel’le says she suffered at Dr. Dre’s hands.┬á She says the first hit was the hardest to relive again. “It came out of nowhere and I didn’t understand it,” Michel’le shares. She recalled how the two cried together and she forgave him out of love. Looking back, Michel’le declared she’s come to an important lesson that┬áshe hopes other young women suffering abuse can understand: “the first slap should be the last slap.”
Despite threats from Dr Dre’s team — who denies the iconic producer ever abused Michel’le — to sue the network if the movie airs, network┬ásources state that the movie will air as planned this Saturday.
